Serbian Language Courses with a recognised qualification at Beginner, GCSE and A Level

The Round Table runs the Serbian Language courses  in partnership with the Azbukum Centre for Serbian Language and Culture in Serbia, which offer a recognised qualification at the end of the course.

The courses have been designed by the Azbukum Centre (www.azbukum.edu.rs), an organisation based in Novi Sad and Belgrade which has been teaching Serbian as a foreign language to adults and young people since 1995. Azbukum courses were accredited by the Serbian Ministry of Education in 2017 and correspond to the European Common Framework of Reference for Languages (ECFRL), so their qualifications are recognised not only in Serbia but in Europe and beyond.

Courses

The courses offered are at A1 Beginner level, A2 ECFRL equivalent of GCSE Foundation Level, B1 ECFRL equivalent to GCSE Higher Level, and B2 ECFRL equivalent to A Level.

Who

Students from across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Apart from at the A1 Beginner level, courses are aimed at students aged from 12 to 17 who have a working knowledge of Serbian in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students will be given a diagnostic test at the beginning of the course which will determine which level course they should follow.

When & How

All courses will now be taught over two academic years from September of each to r suit the needs of students and the pressures on them from school and out of school activities. All courses will be taught online with one lesson per week, one of 90 min (including break of 10 min) taught during the weekend at a time agreed by the students with their teacher. Students will be given a code to access the Azbukum on-line platform AOS for additional practice (reading, listening, games, videos) and support for homework of 30 min to 60 min a week. Study on the Azbukum AOS on-line platform can be done any time in the week. It is an integral part of the course and needs to be done if students are to complete the course successfully. Since the courses will be taught on-line they are open to students from across the UK & Ireland.

Fees

Fees for courses are £340 per academic year. The fee covers the course tuition and the exam entrance fees. Also, included in the fee is a copy of the Azbukum course book together with unlimited access to the Azbukum on-line platform for additional study and support.

Teaching Staff

The course will be staffed by qualified and experienced teachers in London who have been trained by Azbukum to deliver their courses.

Examination Process

The progress of pupils on the course will be assessed on a continuous basis by London teachers and Azbukum staff. Exams in reading, writing, listening and speaking will be held on- line at the end of the course for A2, B1 and B2 courses and be examined by Azbukum staff.

Certificates

Students who have attended 75% of classes and completed 100% of on-line assignments will receive a Certificate of Attendance. Those completing the final examination will receive a Certificate of Proficiency, indicating the levels reached in all four skills and an overall level of proficiency. Both certificates are recognised.
